Dry Needling

Dry needling is a modern, evidence-based technique used to treat muscular pain, trigger points, and movement dysfunction. Thin, sterile needles are inserted into specific areas of muscle known as myofascial trigger points, which are hyperirritable bands of muscle tissue that can cause pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.

The insertion of the needle stimulates a local twitch response within the muscle, helping to reduce tension, improve circulation, and promote the body’s natural healing response. Research has shown that dry needling can help reduce pain, improve muscle activation, and restore normal movement patterns.

In some cases, dry needling may be combined with electrical stimulation (e-stim). When gentle electrical current is applied to the needles, it can further stimulate the targeted muscle fibers, enhance neuromuscular activation, and promote deeper relaxation of the muscle tissue. This combined approach may help improve treatment outcomes for certain muscular and neuromuscular conditions.

Dry needling is often incorporated as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that may also include chiropractic adjustments, rehabilitation exercises, and other manual therapies.

Conditions commonly treated with dry needling include:

  • Neck pain

  • Low back pain

  • Shoulder pain and dysfunction

  • Hip pain and tightness

  • Muscle spasms

  • Myofascial pain syndrome

  • Trigger points

  • Tension headaches

  • Migraines

  • Sports injuries

  • Muscle strains

  • Overuse injuries

  • Restricted range of motion

  • Postural dysfunction
